'Real Steel' Not Enough of a Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots Movie for Mattel

Back in September, Night at the Museum director Shawn Levy signed on to direct Real Steel, a film about boxing robots that sounded, besides awful, close to being an adaptation of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em boxing robot toys. Not close enough, though, according to people paid to make decisions at Mattel. Pajiba reports the company wants to get to work on their own pugilist automaton film--this one receiving the oh-so-valuable name recognition of a half-century-old toy--and has ever-declining Poseidon director Wolfgang Peterson attached to direct. Has anyone started a cross-over petition yet?
