Disney and director Brad Bird's so-called "Close Encounters of the Third Kind-esque story" may have found its lead in George Clooney, the Richard Dreyfuss of Today.
According to Variety, Clooney has started talks to star in 1952, the Damon Lindelof-written extraterrestrial film with a plot just as vague and secretive as its Damon Lindelof-written script implies. All that's known is that Clooney would play a man who makes contact with aliens here on Earth, and that, as noted, it's something akin to Close Encounters. But what makes the news more of a big deal is that it means Disney is likely moving forward with 1952 as their next project with The Incredibles director, potentially taking Bird out of the running to take on Star Wars VII like many had guessed or hoped he would. Also, now Clooney will be unavailable to play a dashing and charismatic Ewok. This Star War is going all kinds of wrong.
