'Pan's Labyrinth' To Become Stage Musical, Recurring Nightmare for Attendees

December 7, 2012

Already took Mom to The Lion King? Then why not next let this natural showman entertain her with song?

Soon you'll be able to, as Deadline says the 2006 Guillermo del Toro nightmarish Francoist fantasy Pan's Labyrinth is headed to the stage as a delightful musical. Del Toro has reportedly already written the book for the production, and over the last four years has been quietly meeting with directors, librettists, and composers to again bring the tale to life, with more of the faun's hoofed tap routines this time. Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla has now been hired to write the music, while Paul Williams--who has written hits for The Carpenters, Three Dog Night, and Kermit--will provide lyrics for a fleshy mound with eyeball hands to sing. And Shrek the Musical already did "I'm a Believer" in the style of Smash Mouth, so they'll have to somehow think of something else.
