Yoda, the erudite Frasier of the Star Wars Cantina's Cheers, may be the first Lucasfilms character to get a Disney spin-off of their own.
As previously discussed back in November, rumor is that the Star Wars scripts Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan were hired to write are not for additional franchise sequels but for side-projects focusing on the universe's popular supporting cast--perhaps a fan-gratifying Boba Fett film, or something about Jar Jar tripping over things, or a Jake Lloyd "Where Are They Now?" special. But according to AICN, it won't be any of those things. They say it's a Yoda-centric spin-off that we'll first see in theaters, followed by perhaps "a JABBA story that Lucas has floated to some of his buddies," because after the success of Honey Boo Boo, a subtitled film about the morbidly obese sounds like a pretty solid idea. First, though, we're apparently getting a Yoda story, so get ready for that. There aren't yet any details on the proposed plot, but for how much the character solemnly speaks of the "dark side", anger, suffering, and all that, maybe we'll finally get to hear about that time he got drunk and killed a kid.
