Following the lackluster performances of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and the already-forgotten Mr. Popper's Penguins, Jim Carrey could use another hit to reaffirm the star power of making funny faces. So, he's returning to the inspiring creative force that gave Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls 1995's biggest opening after Batman Forever.
THR reports Carrey will return to writer-director Steve Oedekerk to be comedically born again, probably out of a robot rhinoceros, for Ricky Stanicky. The film is an ensemble comedy said to focus on a group of guys who, since their teens, have blamed such hilarious pranks as burning down a house on a fictional scapegoat named Ricky Stanicky. When their spouses and for some reason not arson investigators ask to finally meet this guy, they hire an actor to play the part and act like an asshole. Carrey has obviously has that role for some time.
Before Oedekirk got involved and made the casting so on-the-nose, the lead was originally attached to James Franco, and later, Joaquin Phoenix was reportedly eyeing the title role, which certainly would have made things interesting. Now things are not.
