Though he still has Triplets withering on the vine with his pecs, Arnold Schwarzenegger has nonetheless signed on to another buddy comedy in Steve Pink's Toxic Avenger remake, which will now be an Arnold Schwarzenegger action-buddy-comedy, because why not?
Schwarzenegger will reportedly play The Exterminator, described as a former black ops agent who trains the Toxic Avenger and helps him to fight polluters--returning the former governor to the familiar role of servicing a mop-wielding companion. The production hasn't yet found anyone to play the title role, a nerd who gets exposed to toxic waste and--medically speaking--transforms into a deformed mutant superhero. But given his rich history of Schwarzenegger comedy and absurd scientific anomalies, you'd assume DeVito's at least being considered.
"Moviegoers around the world were thrilled when Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to acting so effortlessly filling the gap that he left behind," said producer and International Film Trust co-founder Michael Benaroya in a statement.
"Our film is a perfect combination of commercial genre, star power and award winning filmmakers to set it apart from other titles on offer at Cannes this year," IFT president Ariel Veneziano added. "The Toxic Avenger is a blockbuster in waiting with franchise potential. The buyers will love it." As with the rest of this remake, it isn't entirely clear if any of that is meant to be tongue in cheek.
