Could Christian Bale be getting his second Best Gaunt-Faced, Blue-Collar Brother Oscar? Because it kind of seems like it from this first look at Out of the Furnace.
Co-written and directed by Scott Cooper--who already helped Jeff Bridges to an Academy Award for Crazy Heart--the film boasts an impressive cast that includes Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Forest Whitaker, Willem Dafoe, Zoe Saldana, and Sam Shepard. Bale stars as a steel man working hard to support both his girlfriend and terminally ill father. When his brother (Affleck) returns home from his tour in Iraq, the ex-soldier is in need of cash and ends up getting mixed up in a hill-folk gang and their backwoods fight club. He goes missing and, with Officer Whitaker turning up no leads, Bale exercises his Batman Begins-given right to go Taken on those guys. With a rifle. Here's the trailer:
