Ben Affleck: Wife Murderer??? It may be hard for us to believe, as his relationship with Jennifer Garner is the purist form of love our hearts will ever vicariously know, but it's a question you'll now be asked to at least consider in Gone Girl. Deadline reports Affleck has entered talks to play the lead in the David Fincher-directed film, pushing back plans to direct his Dennis Lehane adaptation Live By Night for the opportunity. Affleck will play a husband whose wife goes missing on the couple's fifth anniversary, leaving him the prime suspect in her disappearance. The story comes from Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel of the same name and, it sounds like, from every single episode of Dateline.
Clearly threatened by Matt Damon's promise to go off and be a director with some other Massachusetts-raised guy, Ben Affleck has already taken steps to reassert himself as both our preeminent Damon-collaborator and the dominant directorial force of that coupling.
