Anyone who's ever seen the series The Wire or Luther have been waiting for Idris Elba to finally get the big-time, mainstream recognition he pretty clearly deserves. A string of blockbuster supporting roles recently ending in an ID4 knock-off speech haven't really done it for him, but maybe he'll finally find some luck with this powerful, biographic leading role in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. From The Other Boleyn Girl director Justin Chadwick, the film looks a bit bombastic and more than a little over the top in its painting of a rousing, inspiring freedom fighter. But hey, so did Lincoln, and that still did pretty well for ol' Danny D-L, right?
