Kids excited for Railway Man's prestigious tale of a marriage and life worn thin by the horrors of wartime torture will be thrilled to learn the stars of that film are bringing Paddington Bear to life. The Weinstein Company today revealed that their planned movie take on Michael Bond's beloved character will star Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman in lead roles. Firth will provide the voice for a CGI Paddington, the bear found stranded at a train station and taken in, because he's a cute bear and not a homeless man. Kidman will reportedly play "an evil taxidermist out for revenge." Paddington's about to learn a tough lesson in why you don't fuck around with the trophy mounting industry.
Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, and Jim Broadbent round out the main cast, and as was previously reported, The Mighty Boosh and Bunny and the Bull director Paul King is attached to bring the film his talent for visual flair. In short, for a live-action/CGI film cashing in on a familiar old property, this could be doing a lot worse for itself.
