Thanks to its combination of Moneyball director Bennett Miller, real-life craziness, and Steve Carrell diving head-first into the drama of a prosthetic nose, it's been widely assumed Foxcatcher's December release date was setting it up for awards contention. But while the film may still be awards-worthy, it won't be getting any this year, as Sony Pictures Classics has moved the film off the 2013 calendar and into 2014. Reportedly, Miller just needs more time to finish his cut, but surprisingly, what has been finished is a teaser trailer, giving us a first look at Carrell's portrayal of multimillionaire, wrestling coach, and murderous paranoid schizophrenic John du Pont. It involves Carrell doing a lot of discomforting leering, and also slapping Channing Tatum right across his slack jaw. Maybe we can still give him an early award for that.
