Gazing dreamily through the window of a moving vehicle, Sofia Coppola has pondered and at last decided on her next project. It's a film based on Fairyland, the Alysia Abbott memoir that will return the Somewhere director to the not entirely unfamiliar realm of a father's life influencing a daughter's vocation. It's not specified that Coppola will direct the adaptation, but she's reportedly teaming with Andrew Durham to write the film, a '70s and '80s-set coming-of-age tale about a girl and her widowed father, a poet and gay rights activist who later died of AIDS. Not since Crystal Fairy and the Magical Cactus has there been a title more likely to ultimately disappoint some 8-year-old girls.
UPDATE: Someone close to the production has informed me that--in a Lenny Kravitz-in-Hunger Games-esque casting move--musician, infrequent actor, and Zoolander cameo artist Gavin Rossdale has also joined the film.
