Lee Daniels will likely direct a film based on the life of Richard Pryor by Sapphire. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the owner of Lee Daniels' The Butler is in talks to take on the long-gestating biopic, a Weinstein production said to cover the late comedian's 30s. Fruitvale Station's Michael B. Jordan, Haunted House inhabitant Marlon Wayans, and Pryor's Harlem Nights co-star and director Eddie Murphy are said to be contending for the lead; Wayans has reportedly already "wowed" Harvey Weinstein with a screen test, but Jordan is said to be the frontrunner. That said, Murphy is still expected to claim the role should it become 1996 again.
