'Terminator: Genesis' Adds Prevalent Movie Elements J.K. Simmons and Drunk Detective
On the off chance that only an extremely clichéd trope can save Sarah Connor from a mechanical Arnold Schwarzenegger, J.K. Simmons is being sent to Terminator: Genesis as the hard-drinking detective who's been working this case since the original film came out. The Hollywood Reporter claims the noted character actor and current Growing Up Fisher star is joining Emilia Clarke's Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke's John Connor, Jai Courtney's Kyle Reese, and Schwarzenegger's returning automaton in the Terminator reboot, which is being directed by Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor. Simmons is the first new character to be added to this re-imagining, and he's described as "a weary and alcoholic detective who has followed a bizarre case involving Sarah Connor and robots for more than three decades (since 1984, which, not coincidentally, is the year the original movie, directed by James Cameron, was released)." In this time travel sci-fi world, he is, it seems, our everyman--just drinking to quiet the killer metal skeletons from the future, like everyone else.
