Time to make another Judge Dredd movie:
Rebellion and 2000 AD are proud to announce that Judge Dredd is coming to a cinema near you soon!
Together with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such great sci-fi movies such as Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, Judge Dredd will go into production in 2009.
Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director said, ‘We can’t give away too many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen.’
It's adorable how 2000 AD is trying so hard to follow in the successful footsteps of DC's Batman and Marvel's Iron Man. I'm just a little worried that, despite how dark and faithful I'm sure they mean to make the adaptation, the number of fans excited for such a project is definitely outnumbered by people who either have never heard of Judge Dredd or remember hating Sylvester Stallone and Rob Schneider in Judge Dredd 1995 edition (see: Punisher). Even if they get their first choice for the lead (surely Jason Statham), I don't see this working out. But feel free to prove me wrong, 2000 AD. Make me believe one man in the post-apocalyptic future can be judge, jury, AND executioner while wearing large shoulder pads.
