New Films Recognizes Universal Love of Whales

June 5, 2009

Watch out, Simon Wincer, Dwight H. Little, Sam Pillsbury, and Will Geiger, directors of Free Willy, Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home, Free Willy 3: The Rescue, and Free Willy 4, respectively--there's a new director looking to take home the crown of Guy Who Made a Whale-Centric Drama.

He's Just Not That Into You director Ken Kwapis is in final negotiations to helm Everybody Loves Whales, a film that will finally recognize that the aquatic mammals have the same level of adoration as Ray Romano. Says Variety:

[Warner Bros.] bought the script, written by Jack Amiel and Michael Begler, in April. It's based on the story of three California gray whales found trapped in the Arctic ice in October 1988, when their plight created a media circus in the tiny Alaskan town.

Enough whale positivity films like this and we may yet encourage enough whale goodwill to save future generations the task of having to travel back in time to rescue the giant beasts.
