Yes, despite already having a five-picture deal to star as "Adorably Sheepish Doctor Who" (above), it seems the rumors are true. John Kransinki may have charmed Marvel producers enough that he could soon be coyly peering over Cap's famous starred shield. Says Fox411:
Insiders at the Marvel compound tell Fox 411 that he is close to landing the superhero gig of his life. John, who plays Jim on "The Office," has appeared in front of producers repeatedly since the start of the new year and since rumors began in February.
"John has read 4 times and is doing screen tests," our source tells us. "He has screen tested 2 times so far. It's very likely that he will be the new Captain America. He is a favorite among the key decision makers and has been asked to come back for more this week."
I'm just going to let you decide which really obvious John Krasinski as Captain America joke you want for this. Try to save one for when I have to report the official decision:
1. Though he's the current front-runner, producers worry he'll probably end up turning down the role in order to ensure he's able to stay in the office with the engaged Marvel receptionist he seems to have developed a quick rapport with.
2. Those who sat in on Krasinski's screen tests report that, while he's not exactly the look they were going for, he nailed all the scenes in which Captain America plays minor but infuriating pranks against Red Skull.
3. Producers expect to save money because Krasinski's hair already has Captain America helmet wings.
4. Something about Leatherheads?
5. Write your own!
