Turns out the Bluths aren't the only ones that understand the long-lasting appeal of Japan's premiere nuclear-mutated giant dinosaur. Legendary Pictures announced today that they've begun work on a new Godzilla movie based on the classic Toho Studios monster with plans to release it in 2012. Don't worry, Toho president Hideyuki Takai is all about it:

Godzilla is a signature Japanese character which we have nurtured over the years. It is a great honor to reach an agreement with Legendary Pictures, the parent to many a blockbuster film, and we are delighted in rebooting the character together to realize its much anticipated return by fans from all over the world. We are anxious to find out where Godzilla's new stomping will take us."

I appreciate his faith and enthusiasm. As you may recall, Americans have a proven track record of being completely reverent to Toho's beloved franchise:
