Ben Stiller and Brett Ratner Teaming Up for Heisting

August 24, 2010

Further distracting him from his ultimate goal of making a Guitar Hero movie, Brett Ratner will direct Ben Stiller in a heist film shooting this November. Originally, envisioned as a story called Trump Heist, "when the intention was for an African American ensemble to target The Donald," the film will instead be called the more generic Tower Heist now that years of extensive rewrites have completely eliminated the presence of Trump and black people. And speaking of rewrites, it turns out all kinds of people have had their hands on this thing. Deadline claims Adam Cooper & Bill Collage, Russell Gewirtz, Rawson Thurber, Ted Griffin, Leslie Dixon, Noah Baumbach, and Jeff Nathanson all contributed to eventually getting us to this topical premise:

Ben Stiller stars as the overworked manager of a luxury building who, along with other staff, lost their pensions to a Bernie Madoff-like Wall Street crook. It so happens that the fraudster is being held under house arrest in the luxury penthouse apartment upstairs, and the manager and four cohorts figure a heist will make them whole.

Somehow this film has already earned $300 million and a 32% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
