PTA's Thinly-Veiled Scientology Movie Might Not Be Happening

You win again, Scientology. Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master, which was set to start shooting in August with Philip Seymour Hoffman as the L. Ron Hubbard-esque leader of familiarly cult-like pseudo-religion, has reportedly been put on hold indefinitely. Jeremy Renner would have played Hoffman's apprentice in the film, except that a certain barrier--that may or may not be the will of powerful Hollywood Scientologists--stopped things in the rehearsal stage. Renner cryptically explained to TotalFilm (from ThePlaylist):

"I was really bummed about that. It really kind of stalled because when we were rehearsing — Phil, Paul and myself — we kept coming up against a wall that we couldn't overcome. Or at least Paul couldn't overcome."

Well, at least we man-animals will always have a shameful cinematic look at the world of Scientology in Battlefield Earth.
