Undeterred by the theater-filling laughter that inevitably follows the Devil trailer's reveal that its Devil-in-an-elevator concept was conceived in the mind of M. Night Shyamalan, the director plans to continue his Night Chronicles films (films he comes up with and has someone else direct and help shoulder the blame), and has revealed the third film in the series will essentially be what Unbreakable 2 would have been if he'd made that instead of that Airbending thing. Shyamalan told MTV:

"I cannibalized the idea for the sequel to 'Unbreakable' for one of the 'Night Chronicles.' It was such a cool idea for a villain, and it was actually originally in the script for 'Unbreakable,' and it was too much. There were too many villains, so I pulled this villain out and was like, 'I'll make this the second flick.'

"I fleshed it out more and more, and thought, 'This could be a standalone movie. I'll just say it: the third 'Night Chronicles' movie is what would have been the sequel [to 'Unbreakable']. So now I need to come up with a new idea."

What a shame. Considering the track record of M. Night Shyamalan films and long-belated sequels, an official Unbreakable sequel had potential to form into one hell of a turd.
