With Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, and supervillain The Lizard all cast in Marc Webb's Spider-Man reboot, it's time to move on to wild speculation about the comic book film's supporting cast, and it looks like What'sPlaying has the first rumor for us to freak out about. The outlet claims Sam Elliott and Mad Men's John Slattery are two of "a dozen or so" actors up for the role of always-shouting Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson. In the previous Spider-Man films, the part was played to gruff, caricatured perfection by J.K. Simmons, so let's all make hope-wishes his name is still in the running, too. He can be the one consistent entity able to traverse the worlds of old and new Spider-Man even as everyone else changes--like Judi Dench in the Bond films. Or lead guitarist Neal Schon in Journey.
