After two weeks of auditioning much of Hollywood's current stock of popular young actresses--a group that reportedly included Keira Knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Blake Lively, Abbie Cornish, Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman, Rebecca Hall, and Scarlett Johansson--for the part of Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby, director Baz Luhrmann has reached a decision: none of them. He's going to go with Carey Mulligan, actually. Mulligan auditioned for the part back on November 2nd, when the above rehearsal photo was taken by Luhrmann, but the director just now disclosed his decision to Deadline. She'll be joining Leonardo DiCaprio, who's playing Jay Gatsby, and Tobey Maguire, who's been cast as Nick Carraway. So if you're just now reading the book in high school, these are the celebrities you should be picturing instead of using your imagination.
