George Hickenlooper, the award-winning director of the Apocalypse Now making-of Heart of Darkness, has died at 47. He reportedly passed away of a heart attack on Saturday while in Denver visiting his cousin, Colorado gubernatorial candidate John Hickenlooper.
Hickenlooper's other notable works include Factory Girl and the 1994 short Some Call It a Sling Blade, which famously introduced us to the entity known as Billy Bob Thornton. His final film will be the upcoming Casino Jack, which stars Kevin Spacey as lobbyist Jack Abramoff. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, son, Charles, and D. A. Pennebaker, who has now solemnly taken back the crown of Documentary Filmmaker with Funniest-To-Say Name.
