'Avatar' Was Our Favorite Movie To Not Pay For

December 22, 2010

Congratulations, Avatar: you aren't just the highest-grossing film ever released; you're also the film the most people ever decided didn't look impressive enough to pay for, but figured they should download so that they'd get the parodies. According to TorrentFreak's list of the most-pirated films of the year, the 2009 James Cameron film was downloaded over 16.5 million times--topping the last film to receive this dubious honor, Star Trek, by over 5 million downloads. (Just to remind you, Avatar made the studio $2,779,551,867, so they aren't sweating it.)

The other films filling out the top ten are Kick-Ass, Inception, Shutter Island, Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans, Green Zone, Sherlock Holmes, The Hurt Locker, and Salt. M. Night Shyamalan-involved movies downloaded for a laugh and/or to skip to the end somehow did not chart. You didn't even care enough to see who the Devil in the elevator ended up being?
