I'm afraid G.I. Joe and G.I. Joe 2 won't be forming the clean, unified vision of cartoonish military might that you'd been promised. According to the LA Times, Stephen Sommers will not be returning to direct the sequel to his toy-based 2009 film. He has sequel standards, guys, despite all Mummy Returns to the contrary.
Fear not, however, that this will stop G.I. Joe 2 from becoming a movie. Zombieland writers Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick are already at work on a script for the film, so Paramount will likely soon begin their search to find someone new to direct their next nearly-unwatchable blockbuster hit. The Mummy 3 director Rob Cohen seems obvious enough, yeah?
