Hey, Paul Thomas Anderson movies are happening again! You know how the esteemed auteur behind There Will Be Blood, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love, and so on really wanted to make a thinly-veiled critique of Scientology, but kept finding himself "coming up against a wall" (i.e. the combined powers of TravoltaCruise creating a barely-translucent barrier of alien energy between Anderson and funding)? Well, he's going to get to make that movie after all--and his Inherent Vice adaptation, too--thanks to Oracle CEO Larry Ellison's daughter, Megan. The 25-year-old billionairess is reportedly in talks to co-finance both projects, having already made a healthy return from her investment in the Coen Brothers' True Grit. So thanks for supporting decent filmmaking, Megan Ellison. If you count Russell Brand's portrayal of Arthur, that's now two rich trust-funders in as many days that I've been shocked to not despise.
