Time To Begin Thankless Task of Writing Candyland Movie, and More

March 29, 2011

- Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, the writers of both Kung Fu Panda films, have been hired to write the adaptation of Candyland. Jack Black as Plumpy, then?

- As we continue work on making innumerable films about ever classic Halloween costume we can remember, Lakeshore Entertainment has hired G.I. Joe writer Stuart Beattie to write and direct an adaptation of the comic I, Frankenstein. Call your agent, Brad Garrett.

- In distribution news: FilmDistrict will release the Johnny Depp-starring adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's The Rum Diary on October 28, while Whit Stillman's Greta Gerwig-starring Damsels in Distress will see an undetermined release through Sony Pictures Classics. Look for them in the theaters with the subtitle movies, and we'll see where it goes from there.

- Teresa Palmer, I Am Number Four's blonde who wasn't the Glee gal, is in talks to star opposite Nicholas Hoult as the human half of the human-zombie love story comedy Warm Bodies. Palmer's character plays the daughter of an anti-zombie military leader, so expect all the hilarity of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner with none of the cultural relevancy.

- All the posturing and haggling between AMC and Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner has pushed the series fifth season into an early 2012 debut. Good time to catch up on all the other shit people keep insisting you should be watching.

- Plans to make a Fraggle Rock movie seem to be stalled. Oh well; probably just would have ended up with Owen Wilson playing Wembley, anyway.

- And now for the sad: Farley Granger, the actor perhaps best known for his parts in Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train and Rope, died Sunday at 85.
