Zach Galifianakis's departure from R.I.P.D. left a gaping hole beside Ryan Reynolds that could only be filled by another laid-back personality capable of growing a healthy beard. Thankfully, we have just such a character, albeit older and less overweight, in Jeff Bridges, and he's reportedly near a deal to co-star in Robert Schwentke's Dark Horse comic adaptation. Reynolds plays a recently-killed cop just hired on to the afterlife's own law enforcement department; Bridges will be his partner, a ghost who's been on the force since the 1800s, and together they're on the hunt for Reynolds' murderer. And, yeah, that premise is fairly similar to the 1988 Treat Williams/Joe Piscopo film Dead Heat, but isn't calling it R.I.P.D. at least a little better than actually remaking Dead Heat? I'm genuinely asking. It's getting so hard to tell what's worse than anything else anymore.
