Hangovers, Pandas, Dinosaurs in Theaters Now

May 27, 2011

Some things coming to theaters:

The Hangover, Part II
Director: Todd Phillips
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Ken Jeong
Good if you want to see: The Hangover again, but in Thailand. Like how Home Alone 2 was in New York.

Kung Fu Panda 2
Director: Jennifer Yuh
Starring: Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan
Good if you want to see: the word "awesome" co-opted as a catchphrase for a fat panda.

The Tree of Life (limited)
Director: Terrence Malick
Starring: Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Jessica Chastain
Good if you want to see: '50s suburbia, modern disillusionment, dinosaurs, and space, because that's how REAL this is.

Tuesday, After Christmas (limited)
Director: Radu Muntean
Starring: Dragos Bucur, Maria Popistasu, Mirela Oprisor
Good if you want to see: the latest entry to the Romanian New Wave, telling the story of a man torn between his wife and his daughter's sexy dentist. Affairs are so much hotter when they fill in the gaps in your health insurance coverage.

United Red Army (limited)
Director: Koji Wakamatsu
Starring: Akie Namiki, Arata, Maki Sakai
Good if you want to see: 1960s Japan, during a time of political unrest that resulted in members of the United Red Army killing over a dozen of its own, breaking into a lodge, and taking the lodgekeeper's wife hostage. Maybe that should have been the plot to The Hangover, Part II.
