Captain America Saved Some Sulky Faces for 'Avengers', and More...

August 19, 2011

- A couple of the Avengers have united on the Ohio set, and Captain America is already getting all petulant about it.

- Gerard Butler is rumored to be up for a lead role as a naval captain in the submarine thriller Hunter Killer. The Hunt for Red October standard of inexplicably Scottish sub captains lives on.

- Tony Scott is in talks to direct that Wild Bunch remake Warner is so keen on. He and Ridley have a real brotherly rivalry when it comes to revisiting old films no one wants them to revisit.

- Mary-Louise Parker has joined the cast of Robert Schwentke's adaptation of R.I.P.D. She'll be playing "the woman overseeing the division who explains to Reynolds' character what has happened when he dies," which means she'll be the one delivering that thick, forced chunk of exposition that explains to us, ohhhhh, so when you die and you're a cop, sometimes you're recruited into the afterlife's police department, and that's the plot of this Ryan Reynolds movie.

- Michael Fassbender has been offered the lead in Prisoners, which would see him playing "a carpenter and father of two who abducts and tortures the main suspect when one of his daughters goes missing in order to try and find the real kidnapper." He should be proud: it wasn't until much later in their careers that Mel Gibson and Liam Neeson got that plum role that let them shout about getting their kids back.
