Marvel's new philosophy on finding directors: Look to the world of geek-beloved television. Having already hired nerd hero Joss Whedon to direct The Avengers, the studio is now talking to Brian Kirk about taking on director duties for Thor 2. You may not know Kirk's name off hand, but if you are a television-watching obsessive, you've surely seen his work, as his résumé includes stints on Dexter, Luther, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and more. He'd be taking over Thor from a departing Kenneth Branagh, who's decided to leave the series after only film, seemingly finally realizing how weird it was that he, Kenneth Branagh, was making a superhero franchise film. Instead, Branagh will be doing something called The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, a post-WW2 love story set on the Nazi-liberated isle of Guernsey. Ah, yes, that tastes much more like genuine Branagh flavor already.
