This Could Be the Premise of the 'Arrested Development' Movie None of Us Are Really Expecting Anymore

August 16, 2011

I think we've all pretty much given up on the perpetually "once we work out everyone's schedule" Arrested Development movie by now--I know I've moved on so that I might focus my energy on other likely-impossible dreams, like winning the lottery, French kissing an alien, and seeing a Party Down movie--but if a tipster for ScreenRant is to be believed, we may actually be close to this thing happening--so close, they say, that an official plot synopsis will be sent out in the next few weeks. Their proof of this bold claim? This paraphrased recreation of this supposed upcoming synopsis:

Ron Howard is making a movie about the Bluths using an A-List cast. But Dr. Tobias plays himself because nobody wants to play him in the movie. The Bluths decide to make their own movie in contention with Ron Howard's.

Huh. The meta-ness of it certainly seems appropriate given the series finale, and it makes sense as an approach, but somehow the whole thing doesn't quite ring true, does it? After all, hasn't Dave Attell already agreed to play Dr. Tobias in a movie? And wait, who the fuck calls Tobias "Dr. Tobias" in the first place? Is Gee Oh Bee the Magician in this, too? It's a good thing I buy into whatever bullshit, never true Arrested Development movie news is thrown at me, or I might be somewhat skeptical of this.
