'Underworld: The Awakening' Trailer: Kate Beckinsale Was Awakened To Do Another One of These Things

August 18, 2011

When Kate Beckinsale was able to reduce her role to a brief monologue in the last Underworld film, Rise of the Lycans, it seemed like she might just be at last escaping from her prison beneath the series' dim blue party lights. Alas, that was not the case. Like with Milla Jovovich, Paul W.S. Anderson and the Resident Evil series, Beckinsale and her director husband Len Wiseman are in an abusive, codependent relationship that feeds on a strange addiction to sliding through corridors, shooting twin pistols, and dodging things in slow motion. Though Wiseman is only now producing his Underworld franchise, Beckinsale has returned to the captivity of her vinyl fetish suit for the latest chapter, Underworld: The Awakening, and there's now a trailer for the film. It is blue:

Congratulations, directors Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein: you've succeeded in making this look exactly like every other Underworld movie.
