Chris Tucker Exists Again

September 7, 2011

Having made three Rush Hour films and nothing else from the span of 1998 to 2007, Chris Tucker unceremoniously ascended to a higher plane of sassy, antagonistic racial tolerance and hasn't been seen since. But now that Brett Ratner is so brazenly displaying his new Tucker replacement, a late-model Eddie Murphy, the time has come for Tucker to descend from the Rush Heavens so that we may once again hear the gospel coming out of his mouth.

According to Variety, Tucker has two roles he's close to selecting as his dramatic return to being Chris Tucker again. The first is a part in David O. Russell's The Silver Linings Playbook, which stars Bradley Cooper as a recently-institutionalized, depressed former teacher. Tucker would play another mental patient who occasionally escapes from the hospital to visit Cooper and provide some diversity from all the film's Jennifer Lawrences and Robert De Niros. The other part is in Neighborhood Watch, Lonely Islander Akiva Schaffer's directorial debut that has Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, and Jonah Hill signed to star as the titular area lookouts whose vigilance somehow uncovers an unlikely plot to destroy the world. Tucker would play the watch's only recently-divorced member, Jamarcus, because if you have to choose one of those guys to play a "Jamarcus," Chris Tucker is probably the best choice. So, prepare yourself for seeing Chris Tucker give you some wide-eyed stares once again. Do you miss him yet, Brett Ratner?
