Paul Feig Will Not Make You a 'Bridget Jones Diary'

October 5, 2011

Though Renee Zellweger will forever continue the Sisyphean task of deciding which Love, Actually star is the most charming (Colin Firth, it last seemed, BUT IS HE REALLY???), Paul Feig is having nothing of it. The Bridesmaids director had been working with Universal in developing a third chapter of the Bridget Jones series, but after turning in his latest draft of the script, both the studio and Feig have now reportedly agreed that a British touch is what's needed to get the proper voice coming out of Zellweger's pursed lips, and the two have parted ways. Feig will instead concentrate on his romantic-comedy focusing on the unlikely pairing of Jon Hamm and Melissa McCarthy, while Universal will search for a UK director, and Renee Zellweger will go dormant, lest she shed any of that precious body fat that magically turns her into a British diarist.
