Lego Movie Coming Together, Like How Lego Bricks Come Together

November 14, 2011

Warner Bros.' Lego movie plans, in the works for over two years, are finally moving forward. Imagined as a live-action/CGI hybrid--like Smurfs, but with small Danish bricks instead of small Belgian devils--the film is reportedly being prepped as a 2014 release that will remind you how old you are to be using a Lego Millennium Falcon as a living room centerpiece. As was previously reported, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are attached to direct--though now the studio has apparently also brought on Robot Chicken's Chris McKay to serve as additional director, working under Lord and Miller and figuring out something cool to do with all the shitty pine trees and house doors they discard in the Lego bin. Plot details remain secret, but casting for the live-action parts is scheduled for January, leaving less than two months for the latest reincarnation of Zack the Lego Maniac to reveal himself. Otherwise we'll probably just have to go with Zac Efron.
