'Perks of Being a Wallflower' Trailer Reveals Unexpected Benefits of Awkwardness, Emma Watson's American Accent

June 4, 2012

Here's the trailer for The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Stephen Chbosky's adaptation of his own novel about being an awkward high schooler, here played by Percy Jackson's Logan Lerman. If you've read the book, you know the story gets into some themes of abuse, sexuality, and drug use, but since this preview premiered during the MTV Movie Awards--during which spirits must be kept high, lest anyone realizes they're limply tumbling into a nadir of meaning--you don't get a lot of the heavy stuff here. But if you like observing teenagers saying hollow but poignant things ("in this moment, I swear, we are infinite!"), dreamily hanging out of automobiles, and declaring themselves outcasts every few seconds, you're in for a treat.

Yes, of course you're an island of misfit toys. Just like Jonah Hill's baseball team.
