Directing Things: 'Frankenstein', David Slade, and, Ugh, 'Sherlock Gnomes'

- Disney reportedly has David Slade attached to direct Matched, their adaptation of the 2010 young-adult novel that follows Cassia, a teen living in an authoritarian future in which government-arranged coupling has her torn between friends Xander and Ky. Hunger Games is really getting some competition in terms of dystopian teen romance and character names too embarrassing to say aloud.

- Kung Fu Panda director John Stevenson has signed on to direct Sherlock Gnomes, the 3D animated sequel based on literally the first "gnome" pun anyone thought of beyond "Gnomeo and Juliet."

- Lucky Number Sleven and Sherlock series director Paul McGuigan is reportedly agreeing to helm 20th Century Fox's Frankenstein, taking over the project from Shawn Levy, who is said to have wanted too big a budget. The involvement of McGuigan is expected to keep costs down, particularly if he manages to sign on Brad Garrett and grease paint.
