Fincher of Course Wants Brad Pitt for '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea'

October 19, 2012

Still waiting on writer Steve Zaillian to finish his script for a Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel, director David Fincher is returning of a couple of old passion projects: a 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea remake and the task of putting Brad Pitt in everything.

Disney hasn't yet given Fincher the greenlight on his Jules Verne adaptation--the studio has reportedly put a three-month hold on the project while they decide if subs are cool or not--but according to Variety, the director is meanwhile sweetening the deal by seeking out frequent collaborator Brad Pitt to star in the film. The actor would play Ned Land, the master harpooner played by Kirk Douglas in Disney's 1954 adaptation, while Captain Nemo will likely be played by "an older A-List star" who will apparently not be Pitt again, Benjamin Buttoned. Real missed opportunity to make this the Nutty Professor II: The Klumps of undersea adventures.
