Now over a year since saying, "These turtles are from an alien race, and they're going to be tough, edgy, funny, and completely lovable," Michael Bay has rescinded portions of that statement, explaining that his Ninja Turtles reboot will not, in fact, make the title characters aliens, even if it does make them undeniably lovable.
"There was that quote saying that we're making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens," Bay recently scoffed to Moviefone, "that quote" being his own quote, recorded by multiple outlets in attendance at Nickelodeon's annual upfront presentation. "We're not. It's the ooze! It's from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press." Correcting himself with the press is something Bay reserves only for explaining how often Armageddon is on cable.
"I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic," added the guy who did those Transformers movies. "I think they're going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great."
Continuing on one of his favorite subjects, "digital stuff," Bay also said we can expect some new CGI shards in the new Transformers, saying "I'm literally redesigning every character, top to bottom." And just when I'd started figuring out which visual headache turned into which car advertisement.
