After years wasted falling in love with time travelers and forgetting who she's in love with, Rachel McAdams has at last found her one true high-concept romance in About Time. The film stars Brendan Gleeson's son Domhnall--better known as Bill Weasley--as a young man whose father (his Harry Potter co-star Bill Nighy) tells him he has the inherited ability to time travel back to any previous time in his life. Because this is written and directed by Love Actually's Richard Curtis, he uses that amazing power not for fame or money but to correct his comic, British bumbling and win over the star of The Notebook, The Time Traveler's Wife, and The Vow.
Naturally, things eventually go awry, and all that time traveling messes up the timeline and makes McAdams no longer recognize her love, as is par for her brain's course. But again, this is also a Richard Curtis, so as with Love Actually, despite all the fractured story lines, things will probably all work out in the end. And then you'll start to also secretly watch and really enjoy this every Christmas.
