BBC's 'Luther' Getting a Prequel Film

August 28, 2013

The BBC's Luther could soon be taking up even more negative space on the big screen. Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, series creator Neil Cross reportedly said he's already written a script for a feature film take on Idris Elba's ever-sullen detective, and he hopes to get it shot next year.

"Idris is a brilliant leading man, and we've hoped to turn Luther into a movie for a long time," Cross said. "It will follow his career in the earlier days, when he is still married to Zoe, and the final scene in the film is the first of the initial TV series." All the dead people will still be alive!

With Mitch Hurwitz also recently confirming he's similarly hopeful for his work toward an Arrested Development feature, looks like this is a great time to be alive, and annoyed that all these great shows we have easy access to on Netflix don't also have movies already.
