Earlier this week, after loudly tweeting that Harrison Ford would replace Bruce Willis in The Expendables 3, Sylvester Stallone followed that announcement by noting, "GREEDY AND LAZY . . . A SURE FORMULA FOR CAREER FAILURE."
Coming from a man agreeing to a reprise Rocky a seventh time, and working on his third in a decreasingly-attended series built on faded star power, that may have seemed like a harsh self-critique from a suddenly-despondent Sly, depressed after remembering he doesn't even beat Apollo Creed the first time. But most assumed Stallone's caps were aimed squarely at Willis, and today comes apparent confirmation of that with an insider's claim Willis turned down a $3 million four-day shoot because he wanted still another million for his time. After all, he was going to have to fly to Bulgaria, home to one of Europe's top three bat colonies.
Of course, while you could easily label that as evidence Willis is as lazy and greedy as the fifth Die Hard, you could also say he just wants to be well-paid to do crap he doesn't want to do. It's not like he was demanding a million dollars a day for Moonrise Kingdom, and that made him endure a little hairpiece. Either way, it's apparently all worked out for the better: THR's insider adds, "[Ford] is a better actor, a much nicer person and a more interesting direction for the film." Would have been a shame had the series abandoned quality acting and interesting direction in the name of making some money for an aging action star.
