Though Ben Affleck has now been cast and warmly embraced as our new Batman, prior to Warner Bros. big announcement, Josh Brolin was among several other names rumored to be taking over the coveted role of Alfred's boss. Instead, Brolin will now only be facing the internet's fury over being in an Oldboy remake, but as it turns out, the talk of him being up for Batman wasn't just the usual bullshit.
Asked if he'd had talks about the superhero part, Brolin confirmed to the Huffington Post (via), "We did. I didn't have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn't turn out. It's OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I'm happy for Ben."
Presumably this "better" scenario he's envisioning would have cast him as Batman instead of Affleck, but now that someone else has got the job, Brolin humbly had only nice things to say about being glad he's not the one dealing with nerd outrage. "I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal," Brolin said. "It's like, 'Fuck this guy, I wish he was dead.' And you're like, 'What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He's doing the same thing you are. He's trying to make the best choices he can.'" Too bad this is the internet, where people go to put off work and to make horrible choices.
