'Trick 'r Treat' Is Getting a Sequel

October 29, 2013

Michael Dougherty's 2007 Halloween anthology Trick 'r Treat never got its intended theatrical release, but thanks to a still-growing cult fan base and the fact that every modestly-budgeted horror film is fated to forever reproduce, it is getting a sequel. Dougherty himself revealed the news to EntertainmentWeekly, promising that the follow-up will once again use the anthology format, this time "exploring Sam [the film's unifying element, a burlap-headed Halloween spirit] more and maybe getting into some back story of who and what he actually is." There's not a schedule for when the film will actually get made, but since there's not yet a script, and because it's being set up for a timely October release, we probably won't be seeing this until fall 2015 at the earliest. Still, with this news and the new X-Men trailer both dropping today, the only way this could be a bigger day for Anna Paquin sequels is if someone buys Holly Hunter a new piano.
