Day We Celebrate Our 'Independence Day' Sequel Pushed Back a Year

November 13, 2013

Earth has been given an extra year before we must sacrifice another Quaid to the alien menace. 20th Century Fox has announced that they're delaying their long-planned Independence Day sequel, moving its proposed release date from July 3, 2015 to July 1, 2016. Sadly, the news also comes with the formal announcement that, despite director Roland Emmerich's meeting with the actor, Will Smith will not be returning to the franchise that first made us realize that his mustache juxtaposes well with aliens. Shame, because with the film now coming out almost 20 years to the day after the original, it would have been good to have him wish an alien "happy anniversary" before punching it.
