2014 Oscar Nominations: 'Gravity', 'American Hustle' Lead with Ten; 'Bad Grandpa', 'The Croods' Trail with One

The 86th Academy Awards nominations were today announced, giving us an official tally of what films were the good films and which are the ones that should be set on fire and forgotten. In the former camp: Gravity and American Hustle. They lead the nominations this year with ten a piece, followed closely by 12 Years a Slave, which earned nine.

In the latter camp? Inside Llewyn Davis, apparently. Though the Academy now allows up to ten Best Picture nominees, they opted for just nine this year, glaringly omitting the Coens' film from that category and all others except cinematography and sound mixing--even from Best Original Song, as if "Please, Mr. Kennedy" isn't still in everyone's head.

Because the Academy remains, eternally, pop-culturally combative and largely out-of-touch, there were, of course, some other snubs and surprises. But we can get into that later. For now, here's the list of nominees:
