People Finally Starting To Get Sick of All This Paranormal Activity

January 6, 2014

Your weekend box office:

1. Frozen - $18.2 million, because: timely! If Disney is smart, they'll follow this up next summer with a straight-to-DVD Humid.

2. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones - $18.2 million, off almost ten million from Paranormal Activity 4's already-receded franchise opening. But, as ever, thanks to a barely-existent budget, still a profitable exercise that undoubtedly bears further repeating.

3. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - $16.3 million. The popularity of dwarf-watching endures.

4. The Wolf of Wall Street - $13.4 million, climbing up a spot despite a crowd-upsetting lack of any actual canine stockbrokers.

5. American Hustle - $13.2 million, setting the film up to break $100 million before the Oscar nominations come in a couple weeks. Finally, Christian Bale and Jennifer Lawrence found themselves a successful franchise.
