DiCaprio, Jonah Hill Re-Teaming for Richard Jewell Story

February 4, 2014

As The Wolf of Wall Street possibly teased in its tagline, stocks may rise and fall, but the friendships formed last a lifetime. Already this year Jonah Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio have started work on a hip-hop series and lovingly held each other on SNL, and now they're teaming up for another project. Deadline reports the duo, both up for Oscars this year, are re-teaming yet again to tell the story of Richard Jewell, the security guard wrongly accused of being a terrorist during the '96 Atlantic Olympics bombing. The media's over-eagerness to report Jewell as the perpetrator made him first a villain and mockery, later a completely-ignored case against the knee-jerk 24-hour news cycle.

Fox is producing the film, having acquired the rights to the 1997 Vanity Fair article "American Nightmare: The Ballad Of Richard Jewell." DiCaprio will play the Southern real estate attorney who helped guide Jewell through the legalities of the situation, while Hill will attempt the leading role. May Jewell at last find solace in the purifying exoneration of Jonah Hill going straight for a Best Actor nod.
